Partnerships Help Teachers Advance in Marin County
Alliance helps incoming early childhood education teachers advance professionally
CareerPoint MARIN has partnered with Community Action Marin Child Development Programs (CAMCDP), to create the Early Childhood Education Community Workforce Project (ECECWP), an alliance to help incoming early childhood education teachers advance professionally and academically with a variety of supports.
The ECECWP is an essential partnership for the regional economy as there is a great shortage of teachers. One of the many milestones made by the partnership is the support of College of Marin by adding required units to the Early Childhood Education courses. In addition to the courses, there is also a clear vision to provide the partnership’s interns an experience in the classroom for five months as a part of an on-the-job training (OJT).
On-the-Job Training (OJT) is a CareerPoint service that is a win/win for both its customers: the job seeker and employer. OJTs offer businesses up to 50% reimbursement of the wage rate of trainee during a specified period. “The OJT program allows an individual to strengthen and build skills that employees need to succeed the position while earning a wage to support their families,” said CareerPoint MARIN Manager Sherry Parr.
CareerPoint MARIN customer and intern, Juana Hernandez, said the program helped her rejoin the workforce. “The program has helped me better understand the behavior of children and will also help me obtain a job,” she added.
